Sans Animal Kingdom

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

I see a bit of stuff about cute animals and urges to keep them in their habitats. It sounds good but it rubs my prioritizing mind the wrong way. Somebody needs to list a minimal set of required animals or animal types (a raccoon or an opossum might occupy the same necessary niche), and then we’ve got a working guess for all the animals we really need. Then take a plot of land and build said ecosystem and see how it works. That’s what I would like to see except if that conflicts with my next point.

The City

Monday, August 15th, 2011

I invade you like a mist or a smell in the moonlight
On nights like this.
You thought I’d be more physical as you breath me in
On nights like this.
And you thought you had a silverback
But I’m like a city.
You can get lost when you
contemplate me.
And you can feel my culture
that complicates in me
You feel the hustle and bustle
and the sense of haste that’s me.
And I pick you up by the waist
because I’m not gonna waste
Such optimal placement
Have you upbeat
like a cocktail waitress
Feeling off the clock
Like you had a great pay shift
And you’re on vacation
while you’re on my playset.
And you breath me out
Like a lit cigarette
And you find me on a postcard
Cause you can’t forget.

Measuring Successful Policy

Saturday, August 13th, 2011

I think leftist because I think a lot of luck was the difference between things I take for granted and things lower income people simply don’t have available. Take competitive games for example, a lot of times the winning team has lots of ways to win because they have better stats all across the board. It’s not a perfect deal for higher ranked teams, or wealthier companies, but it means you can make all sorts of mistakes less fortunate people cannot. I’ve gone about three years without credit because my rating is shit. And I can do this because I have other factors constantly in my favor. I’ve always had a job since I was twelve. And my only unmet needs included growing up and moving out and buying the latest video games and I put my back into those pursuits. I don’t think other people get away with such naivete. But I can probably get away with a whole lot more and I think of that as a hint of my privilege. I wish some particularly disadvantaged people had some of my good fortune and were raped and maimed less.

Neon Trees

Monday, August 8th, 2011

So it turns out the Neon Trees band is Mormon. They all met that way. Whatever. I’m calling that out as being irrelevant to me. I haven’t heard anything in their lyrics that makes me concerned that I’m funneling fandom toward something with values I would disagree with. I never asked what religion Trent Reznor might subscribe to.

Officially, I think the Mormon add on label to the band is a non story in the same way as Evanescence or MxPx are not simply defined by their values.

I don’t need more reasons to hate people. Quite the contrary.

Spare the Rod

Friday, August 5th, 2011

Spare the rod.
Something Catholic priests
have long forgotten
And they don’t even Bible read
Say the creed
and let’s agree
Old texts might need
updating.

And I know some people are born up gay
And I know some people are pedophili-yay
But I think leaders need to show more restraint
Since their way gave the genes in folks gay today.

I mean, it’d be different if old ways worked.
If kids weren’t victims
for chaste priests that weren’t.
if evangelical pastors
weren’t abusive parents after
They paid their male prostitutes
With humbly gave church offerings.

If you worship a fake Father
does that make you a bastard.
Corrupt now can’t lead
to happily after
Morality is a process
Old tombs are out of fashion.
Try a dialog to find out
what your neighbors value. that’s um
A little to sensible
and a little bit social

But it doesn’t give you a pulpit
to wax all emotional
The old generation
And the Tea party revival.
can all suck my dick.
I spare the rod and the child.

[Editor’s note: my girlfriend says it’s confusing the way I juxtapose pedophilia and gay. I am attempting to lump old school values and religion with pedophilia as a slam on the Catholic black eye that’s been part of the daily news. I’m using gay as one of the innocent types of people that religion picks on with rods in order to beat their normalness out of them. The homophobes tend to be closet gay people that additionally hate themselves and sometimes lash out at children. So the juxtaposition should read as a contrast and a laugh that a bunch of hetero people keep making gay folk thereby confirming that we’re reaping our own genes and yet hating on them when we follow the old values.]

Freedom of Conscience

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011

Freedom of religion really isn’t what it sounds like. It sounds like if you have a religion, your rituals get legal protection. But I say, this is overlooking something even more basic. You have freedom of conscience. If it is against your personal values to do something, some of that is probably protected. But some of it is nonsensical because society must demand some level of equal behavior from its citizens.

So I say, forget your religious identity. When you’ve got dietary needs because you don’t eat pork or you’ve got wardrobe values so that you must where a skirt, just approach it as an individual with an over imaginative conscience and then you can probably predict how society and law will handle your beliefs.
