I ran around the blog and got into a slight discussion about Spirituality that incorporated opinions about atheists and Christians. I ran into an atheist event that discussed male and female points of view. The theme for today is clearly labels.
To illustrate what is right and wrong with labels, let’s imagine a scene where a man is talking about women. Let’s say he says women don’t know how to act. An immediate series of problems comes into play.
- How should a woman act?
- How does a man know how a woman should act?
- Does the man think all men need to act like a certain type of man?
- If there are proper gender roles, how much are this man’s ideas of roles like the correct roles?
- How representative of a common situation is this in ordinary life
And so on… who is this man to be discussing women?
