To Make Certain Stories Possible

Monday, June 29th, 2009

We’ve all seen stories we’d really like to enact in real life but we know we could never accomplish.  Just because a MILF wants a little attention, it doesn’t mean she wants it with me and that’s just one story.  There are many stories with many combinations that are all decent situations that consentual adults can get themselves into and adults don’t.

When I was a teenager, I didn’t want to participate in the corruption of my peers.  Between teens and twenty-two, I wasn’t sure I wanted to corrupt myself.  But a couple years of Penthouse subscriptions have led me to believe there’s an attainable world that we choose not to live in.  All we don’t want are the consequences.  We don’t want social ostrazation.  We don’t want to become parents or get diseased from our adventures.  We don’t want to hurt people we love and who count on us.  And we don’t even want to replace our primaries.

Think of all those stories:  cheating wives, multiple partners, alternative one offs.  In each one of those stories, the people acknowledge their consent and their interest and go on to have experiences I can only vicariously experience through internet fiction or said Penthouse subscriptions.

Before I get too far, I should point out that personalities really matter.  I really don’t think a random combination of bodies is going to result in what most people are looking for.  And I don’t think that living the story is a sustainable thing.  I see those stories as possible only given a series of unlikely events conspiring.

However, I think these stories are more possible than my experience leads me to believe.  There could to be a series of non suggestive appearing signals like minded people can use to establish the important details of a potential rendezvous.  The sign language should reveal any complications such as diseases or fertility.  Naturally I think there are ethics involved.  If you’re in a relationship, I don’t think you should be snacking on the side.  Any unmet hunger should definitely be communicated and resolved as a team.   I think if you are in the right relationship and the right side story were to present itself, everybody of interest would be green lighting the event.

Anyway, we’ve had enough Puritanical nonsense.  We’ve had enough genderism simultaneously worshiping and obsessing over the rights a woman has to her story parts.  It’s time to adopt an adult way to communicate a little more with people who qualify to make certain stories possible.

God Swatter

Friday, June 26th, 2009

At Seth’s World, we normally do not sponsor product advertisements but we have a brand new product in stock that we are very excited about.

Have you ever been engaged in everyday predictable life when a god or devil interfered with your well-laid plans? How many times have you left something in one place only to have to look for it later? Gods and their ilk can be quite complicating demanding obeisance and stealing your car keys before hiding them in your couch.

For just $19.95 plus modest shipping and handling, we will send you the scientifically indisputable God Swatter. What you do is spin around three times before opening the seal on the package and then your hands have God Swat power. Simply flail around your room or apartment for a few minutes to drive undesirable deities away. Our aerosol based God Spray can be purchased for an additional fee to clear coat your abode with supernatural repellent. Guaranteed to work better against divine beings than a similarly administered placebo.

Claims against the warranty must be backed by hard evidence.  In the event of product failure (previously unheard of but theoretically possible), you will need documented evidence of the divine presence in the area in question along with written descriptions of the deities mannerisms.  We will subsequently pray on your behalf for 80 days that the deity go away, and in all likelihood, this will resolve your issue.  We guarantee that we will work continuously to remove difficult supernatural forces, but under no circumstances will refunds be issued.  Thank God for science.

Rhyme Knight

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

Call me the rhyme knight
I rhyme right into the most sensitive spots where it’s so tight.
Unlike a credit card you don’t have to let me swipe
but when the words are right
You dim the lights

I got a big attitude like a mastodon
I’m down for a long haul if you can just hold on
unlike the fundies on the right
you won’t ever be wrong
for just being you as our thing goes on

It’s so basic
I related us on Facebook
the relationship is great
so your anxiety is wasted

Call me the rhyme ninja
as I sneak into you mental till I’m the center of your ‘tention.
I’m a man on a mission I can ’cause I’m that engine
why be just friends
when we have a private kitchen?

I’ve got a span of intention
longer than the listing of complaints heaped on a Clinton
I’m into what I’m into I don’t play games like some men do
I love what I get into
and I promise never to pretend to

It’s so basic
I related us on Facebook
the relationship is great
so your anxiety is wasted

Truth and God: Double the Baggage

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

I carry the operating philosophy that there is no absolute truth. Our best facts are works in progress. Some information gathering techniques work better than others. But life is never going to be so good as to boil down to a simple check list of things you can do to make your life better. Hard working people are disillusioned. Pessimists are overly cynical. Medicine has a well-intended experimental component. Gas powered cars can get us places faster including into fatal collisions. At best we can identify a list of qualities that we are forced to trade between. In all likelihood identifying all of the qualities will be an endless pursuit that does manage to zero toward the right direction.

Do you remember quadrilaterals? I remember various functions that would not only make parabolic shapes, they would have various humps as they graphed toward infinity. Each hump represented at best an absolute maximum but just as likely a local maximum. There were valleys too representing minimums within various ranges. Optimizing functions tend to focus on minimums and maximums and can get stuck in local hills and valleys. So can we. Humanity can be in a place where every shift is worse but the end result of several shifts can be better if we use the graph as a metaphor for improvement. So even a mathematically optimal result may only be optimal within a given range. There are cases where that is true and cases where it is false. I don’t even give my opinions absolute weight.

Asking questions and caring about the answers seems both good and human. Maybe other animals do it, but I think humans do it and it is a helpful thing to do. Asking better questions yields more useful answers, so questions benefit from optimization. Answers on the other hand are like snapshots of a motion picture. Some answers are so close to right for your purposes that there is no need to reanalyze. “Look ma, a seagull!” And some answers to questions such as the healthiest way to live, how to be happy, and how to live longer not only have different answers, they might be somewhat incompatible, you might not be able to enjoy an immortal life. Too much health might result in lower gratification with life in general. The questions are very very interesting and very relevant, but the answers shift because they are just snapshots.

We don’t have to ask too much about reading and math because we invented the constructs. Some of the higher math requires some double checking for correct application. Some pronunciation is counter intuitive to those of us still in the grasp of phonetics. Those are subjects over which we could have complete knowledge. We made the letters and the word sounds and connected them. The universe is something that preexisted us and the rules aren’t all obvious.

Some questions don’t matter. It doesn’t matter what existed before our universe or what will exist afterward. To dispute this, someone needs to explain how human intervention can result in a difference. But worse than questions that don’t matter are answers in a canned format. Humans certainly didn’t start with a complete set of right answers. And no authority in the world is going to convince me just because they say so. I’ve got to buy into their reasoning. And I hope I do that using effective reason processing skills.

And I don’t jump to faith no matter what. If a psychic told me the lottery numbers for tomorrow, I wouldn’t play today. If the psychic predicted the lottery numbers 3 days in a row, I would play on the fourth day. Any mofo can say they are psychic. Just like any mofo can write a book and call it the word of God. I don’t see God’s name in the Author’s section. I don’t see God’s profile in the sleeves of the book cover. And I don’t hear anybody saying Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John were infallible. (Hint: some of the stuff about Harry Potter, J.K. Rowlings just made up. Sorry to spoil that for you.)

So I’m particularly rubbed the wrong way philosophically by faith. Beyond it’s irrational affect, I just can’t jump into fairy tales. Sure I have some wrong answers I think are right, but I don’t go institutionalizing those answers. And I’ll discuss my thinking. I don’t care if Hitler was or wasn’t an atheist. I don’t care if the founding fathers were equivalent to modern day Christians. I care what I think and how my variables come together and how my atheism works. I’m not only full of disbelief, I’m also highly individualistic.

My opinions aren’t even beliefs. They are the thoughts that have advanced and matured as I’ve grown. I certainly didn’t begin my life thinking this way. But an assertion such as “God is True” is guaranteed to fall on deaf ears. I just hear Charlie Brown’s teachers. “false” is “false”. So what? Let me lighten my load a little and go on to thinking about something that matters to me for more reasons than being important to my nation’s culture.

The Reasons

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

I love you because of the easily observed
convergence moving us closer together as we travel the same circuits.
Putting aside grand claims to the circus of life and divine purpose.
We sidestep our own roles as our personalities assert
Insurgents in our own heads
Beautiful and perfect.

I love you because I was surprised
I didn’t have to give you everything like a naive romantic might idolize
It’s not that you don’t qualify
You have everything I could quantify
But we have to leave room for ourselves to be ourselves
And while romantic I’m not a naive kind of guy
And you just smile at my antics.
Like I’m not explaining the distance between us
but running frantically
to the platform you are standing on
That you’ve been keeping kind of warm
Waiting for the right partner to join you
Like you didn’t need shelter because my thoughts weren’t storms.

I love you because you seemed to respect
the need for me to be me my way
and you appear to want the same
and it seems unlikely for you to say
you admire the things in me
that made us even more unlikely
Like you are even more just like me.
Only you seem to handle more lightly.
You have feelings but your mind shines brightly.
And you’re becoming something of a lighthouse
to make it safe to come home nightly.

And naturally there is a risk of honesty
that can be quite frightening
and the fear of lies when the lords of the skies
fail to punish with lightning the misrepresentations of people
who just might have been
acting an agenda while we acted ignorantly but rightly
But the combination of who I am when I am
what I am and your reactions cannot be faked because
I can’t be made with a cookie cutter shape
so you can’t have anticipated what being with me might take.

So I love you because you move like me,
You are sturdy like me
You brighten my existence while insisting that the illumination is all a reflection
while an amusing proposition.
The light I shine is not in the reflection bouncing back
What is dazzling me has its origins next to me
and in fact are individual enough it cannot be confused.
So your original self is the last reason I choose.

PETA is retarded

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

Here’s why.

PETA’s response to Obama killing a fly

Here’s my thinking.  Ethical treatment excludes actions which cost me to benefit another creature of another species.  If it comes down to me or him, he loses everytime.  I don’t pick the flies actions, but I have dominion over myself such that I can use my power to avoid being harassed by critters that create a nuisance in so much as I am capable of avoidance.  It’s neither my job nor in my interest to preserve a fly’s life because there will be more and there is no evidence I’m aware of that suggests letting a trespassing fly live is beneficial to me.

Where this seems like I’m saying that trespassing is worthy of death, I rebut that flies offer limitted options.  They don’t take kindly to diplomacy.  When I can communicate with flies and they listen, then I will adopt a more fly-friendly response.

Thank you, and smack a fly for me in spite of PETA being retarded.

Headache to Reality

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

Oh man, Chad’s head was hurting again.  The debilitating pain prevented him from doing anything but stumble toward the meds cabinet.   When he opened the pill bottle he noticed with great anxiety that the pill bottle was empty.  These things never went empty.  He wasn’t even sure who filled the bottles but there had always been at least 20 pills left.

He stumbled back to his bed, unsure of how to handle a day without the meds.  He typically took a pill once every 48 hours.  When his girlfriend left him, he was up to 4 a day at one point.  It didn’t take long for him to land on his feet emotionally and now he was back down to predictable levels.

He dozed off for awhile waking some time toward the evening, vomitted in the nearest wastebasket and lay in a self-imposed comatose state waiting for some sense of comfort to return.  Chills racked his body and he involuntarily twitched endlessly.  Eventually he fell back asleep.

In his dream, he was in a hospital ward but the staff was mysteriously absent.  He began roaming the halls and came upon a rather great commotion where all the staff was working to calm a hysterical man.  Security restrained the man who was then injected with something and carried off the premises.

A security guard noticed Chad’s presence and made a signal to a guard behind him.  A guard Chad hadn’t even noticed.  He felt the pinprick of a needle and he suddenly found himself back in his dormatory, down the hall from his room.  He collapsed in his dream only to wake up back on his bed feeling somewhat better with a slight  headache.

Chad got up, stumbled to the med cabinet and took a pill before going to work.  But he did have the slight halo of weirdness due to a really strange feeling of the dream.

Druglaced Condoms

Friday, June 12th, 2009

I just thought of this topic today.   But I think it’s reasonable so I’ll share it.  I think condoms with recreational drugs to be absorbed by the body are around the corner.  Imagine if by slipping a little raincoat on my little fireman, I can make a woman high.  Assuming she is consenting then she wanted to be high.  But by mixing the drug effect with the sex effect, the man with the druglaced condom seems like a shoe-in for a repeat sale in the future.

Women, pay attention. Play safe.

Gaps are Boring

Friday, June 12th, 2009

One day a lightning bolt crashed to earth.  Little Timmy asked “what was that?”.  His mom answered “God.”  And Timmy never asked again.

Seth’s World 101

Friday, June 5th, 2009

Government is a weird thing with lots to balance.  And I’m gonna take an ignorant stab at making the goals of government and the limitations of government simple.

Assumption 1: The government exists for the people to preserve in as much as is possible the ability for people to choose their own path promoting life, liberty and their self defined pursuit of happiness.

Assumption 2: Happiness is a highly subjective, relativistic effect that does not correlate in a predictable way with safety, danger, or a view of the consequences.  All of these things can affect happiness, but they don’t affect happiness in a consistent way person to person.

Government By Choice: A government is a voluntary organization designed to protect each person’s individual choices.  Each person is on their own path to life, liberty and the pursuit.  The protections of government should be automatic for people under a specified age e.g. while a minor, and then an adult should opt in the government system or join a preferred group of like minded people elsewhere.

While the government relies on its constituents for service and finances, the benefits the government provides should be clear enough to encourage voluntary membership.  It is my opinion that the government needs to work diligently to make sure groups of people who may become disenfranchised have something to gain from maintaining membership.

Limited Government: Government should not be able to protect an individual against themselves.  Actions in which the intiator and the victim are one and the same are included in the freedoms provided for every person.  Actions in which the initiator and all the victims are involved voluntarily are also free of government regulation.

I would have as much freedom as possible granted to every individual.  Restricting freedom places the freedom of judgment on the shoulders of the governing people, increasing their opinion at the cost of every other person.  I would prevent as much government interference as possible.  And I would have the rule enforcing and creating entities bound by strict due process.  Where there is a need that outweighs the freedom of an individual, that need should be defined and reviewed.  Rules that are never violated should be stricken from the rulebooks as unnecessary.  Rules that are violated by the majority of the governed population should be investigated using the highest standards of reason and should be rewritten to be attainable.  Since a government represents the compulsory will of the people, when the majority of the people dissent, the rule must change.

Freedom is intricately related to knowledge thus the pursuit of knowledge and the desire to verify existing knowledge are important.  The style of debating dissenting viewpoints needs to be basic to our education so that claims may be reviewed informally as much as is necessary.

The government is not free to protect me from myself nor the people from themselves.  The governing bodies should provide transparency so that other people may autonomously assist the government or dissent with reason.  This should improve the quality of government actions and raise the common system of ethics.  I belong to myself to include the right to destroy myself.  A voluntary group of people may form a community with the right to the same destruction.  However, I am not free to destroy others nor am I free to limit choices that affect only the dissenter or a voluntary group of dissenters.  My ability to interfere with the choices of others only exists when my freedoms are challenged or the freedoms of one person or group are being challenged by a separate person or group.

Tradition is an emergent property of the choices a society of people made.  Therefor, tradition does not stand on its own and each actual choice is reviewable.

Ignorance is an excuse.  The government and society should work to reduce the merit of that excuse because the absence of knowledge happens before knowledge even though we are still capable to act.

While life is meaningless, my life matters to me and other lives may matter to themselves.  This is why during the span of our existence, I need the freedom to explore what matters to me.

Please note that all rights are defensive in nature such that in a person’s own private domain they may reasonably exercise greater flexibility with their communications and assumptions then they might in public.  There should be a manner to find topics and dissenters of specific topics for public and individual discourse, but choices that lead to the limitation of freedoms of others must not only be carefully analyzed, the reasoning behind the limitation and the limation itself must be available in plain language and reviewed periodically to determine if those limitations provide a greater benefit toward invidual freedoms than they cost individual freedoms.

My words, my opinions.

ADDENDUM-  Check out this good quote found in the comments section.  http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/intersection/2009/05/31/civility-and-the-new-atheists/#comment-18074 .  A quote of a quote of Mills saying “That the only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others.”  I might need to do my reading.
